Bush-Kerry by County

See Map 16 in 109th Congress Constituency Maps for a Bush-Kerry by county interactive map.

For comparison purposes, a Bush-Gore map is also in the congressional map. This nationwide map is also available in the Polling Place Demographics map application and the Ohio and Minnesota maps. The Minnesota map also includes a Bush-Kerry precinct level map.

The Florida interactive map now includes a map showing precinct-level results for the 2002 gubernatorial contest between Bush and McBride.

New Jersey Get-Out-The-Vote Maps

FairVote2020 has developed an interactive map showing registration and turnout in New Jersey for the 2000 presidential election.

Additional maps include census data on race, ethnicity and income. Change maps by clicking the drop-down menu under "Compare Maps" on the left.

At the end of this page is a link to Adobe maps showing nonvoters and 2000 turnout rates by precinct for New Jersey cities with populations greater than 15,000. There is also a link to a second set of maps for the same places displaying Bush-Gore by precinct. Use the two sets in tandem to help target your canvassing efforts.

10,000 Maps

To access the interactive maps select a state from the sidebar.

Over 9,000 high detail "zoomable" printer-ready, PDA compatible, street-level focus precinct maps are also available for Arkansas, Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio and South Carolina. Depending on the state, the maps show block-level estimates of unregistered persons of voting age or unregistered plus inactive voters.

In addition, community-wide Adobe maps can be downloaded for about 1,600 localities in those eight states and a dozen or so other states where we have statewide registration or turnout data -- Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Depending on the state, these maps show precinct or neighborhood-level estimates of unregistered persons of voting age or unregistered plus inactive voters.

Just for fun, we've added Adobe maps showing Bush-Gore by precinct for the same set of localities in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia. Similar Adobe maps are available for the 2002 Senate contests in North Carolina and Georgia and the 2002 Wisconsin Attorney General race.

Also, street-level census data Adobe maps are available for selected precincts in Oregon and Wisconsin counties, where we have been unable to obtain the registered voter lists.

These interactive and Adobe maps can help you marshal scarce resources for door-to-door voter registration and target areas for transporting voters to the polls.

In addition to the default voter registration maps, each interactive map application includes maps showing neighborhood-level detail on the following:

-- Median Household Income (1999)
-- Population Below Poverty
-- Population Under 18 Below Poverty
-- Female Householder (single-parent) with own children
-- Percent Black (single-race, all ages)
-- Percent Latino (any race, all ages)
-- Percent Native American (single- race, all ages)
-- Percent Asian (single-race, all ages)
-- Housing Tenure (renters and homeowners)
-- Median Home Value (by census tract)
-- 18-64 Limited English-Speaking Ability (Spanish speakers only)
-- Percent Undercount
-- Households without a vehicle
-- Population 25 and over without a high school degree
-- Foreign Born Non-citizen Population (any race or ethnicity, all ages)
-- Population Ages 15 to 24

Missouri Get-Out-The-Vote Maps

Thanks to: E-Merges and Techpolitics

FairVote2020 has developed an interactive map showing voter registration rates for Missouri communities and neighborhoods in selected counties as of the January 2004. Boundaries for the thematic display are based on census block groups rather than precinct lines because there is no publicly available statewide geographic 2004 precinct database.

Zooming in to a scale of about five miles, you will see the estimated number of unregistered or inactive voters (by block group) displayed in purple boxes.

You can view socioeconomic themes -- race, ethnicity, income, access to vehicles, etc. -- for these neighborhood areas by selecting maps from the drop-down menu under "Compare Maps" on the left. These maps also show block group-level detail, providing an exact boundary match to the voter registration data.

Below the links to the interactive maps is a link to a directory with about 500 maps in Adobe format -- printer-ready and PDA compatible.
These maps show street-level detail for areas where 40% or more of the voting age population is minority, with an estimated 200 or more unregistered or inactive voters. There are an estimated 212,000 unregistered or inactive voters (all races) in the focus areas, representing about 55% of the resident voting age population. About 45% of Missouri's minority population lives in these areas.

There is also a link to Adobe maps showing neighborhood registration rates for all Missouri localities with populations greater than 15,000. A link to a second set of maps for the same places displays Bush-Gore by precinct.

Map 1 (default map) -- Unregistered or Inactive Voting Age Population in 2004

At a scale of about 5 miles, the estimated number of voting age persons (by block group) who are unregistered or inactive is displayed in purple boxes. When you click on ZOOM TO and then click on the map -- voter registration and demographic data for the block group selected will appear in a table below the map. Click on INFO and then click on the map for more detailed data.

At a scale of about 3 miles, green labels showing the block group numbers can be displayed by checking the box next to "BG FIPS code" below the map image. (The five digit state-county portion of the number, e.g. "29510" is not shown in the map -- 29 is for Missouri and 510 indicates St. Louis City -- but is displayed using the INFO button and must be entered for searches based on the block group code using FIND. )

Precincts in effect in 2000 (called VTDs) can be identified by clicking on INFO and then on the map. The precinct number is the last item in the pop-up window.

This map is based on a January 2004 statewide registered voter file. For the map theme, we eliminated from the registered count anyone who had not voted for the previous six years or who was identified as inactive in the voter file. Precincts in 33 counties are not displayed due to geocoding inaccuracies. The area displayed -- where geocoding was generally in the 95%+ range -- contains a total voting age population of 5.1 million persons, or 91% of the voting age population statewide.

Blank areas on the map encompass the 33 counties and other areas where the geocoding was faulty or voter data was incomplete.

Census blocks shaded in grey have minority voting age populations below 40%.

The files are organized by county, city, zip, and block group number. The precinct proxy code is based on a precinct that is within all or part of the block group. Where block groups are split by precincts, only one of the precincts is identified. Precinct proxies may also encompass more than one block group.
